20th Century Studios has released a pair of new TV spots for The New Mutants. This is set to be the final Marvel movie produced by Fox to hit theaters. This one was made well before the Disney/Fox merger and has had quite the troubled road to release. Ultimately, the Disney overlords deemed it worthy of a theatrical release. Here, we get a good look at the horror-tinged action on the way, as well as a good look at the mutant Sunspot and the villain, Demon Bear.
The first spot is the one that delivers a good look at Sunspot, one of the mutants we’re set to be introduced to in the movie, played by Henry Zaga. The New Mutants 2020 Full Movie The original trailer which, rather amazingly, debuted back in October 2017, merely teased the powers of these mutants. The more recent theatrical trailer also largely played things close to the chest in that department but, as is often the case, as the release date creeps up, the veil of secrecy is pulled back further and further.
The cast includes Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Blu Hunt and Alice Braga. The future of the X-Men will be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as the franchise is set to be rebooted alongside the other Marvel heroes owned by Disney. The big question right now is if the studio will leave some sort of back door option for this movie to possibly be retconned into the MCU, should the powers that be decide that’s the way to go. As unlikely as that seems, stranger things have happened. The New Mutants is set to hit theaters on April 3 from 20th Century Studios. Be sure to check out the new TV spots for yourself.
20th Century Studios, formerly 20th Century Fox. It has released a brand new poster for the upcoming Marvel movie The New Mutants. It’s pretty great! The film is a holdover from 20th Century Fox’s slate of Marvel movies. It was originally supposed to be released in conjunction with Dark Phoenix. And Deadpool 2 as yet another step outside the normal bounds of superhero movies. But Fox kept delaying the film’s release so often that eventually it became Disney’s problem. When the Mouse House purchased Fox and its film assets.
Disney, with input from Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige no doubt, decided no reshoots were necessary for director Josh Boone’s horror tinged X-Men spinoff. And thus the film will be released untouched. The story revolves around a group of young mutants being housed in a secret facility. That purports to help them control their abilities. But as the kids learn about their new powers. They come to suspect this facility isn’t there to help them at all.
Being the last of Fox’s Marvel movies, many wondered if Disney would actually put any effort into marketing The New Mutants. Surprisingly, the Mouse House is arguably doing a better job of promoting the movie than Fox did. Unveiling stylish one-sheets and a new trailer. That plays up The New Mutants’ horror elements and connections to the greater X-Men mythology. That continues to be the case with the latest one-sheet that dropped online today.
This particular one-sheet is simple yet effective in design, quickly encapsulating the creepy and dark vibe The New Mutants is going for. By comparison, Fox and Boone always seemed to be at odds over the tone. The film should embrace, which resulted in the movie being delayed for reshoots in the first place. Fox was apparently uneasy about Boone’s horror approach early on. But changed its mind after the original New Mutants trailer. Which emphasized the film’s horror style – earned a warm reception back in 2017.
For years, thanks to numerous delays and the added complication of Disney’s 20th Century Fox buyout. Fans weren’t sure the highly anticipated X-Men spinoff New Mutants would ever see the light of day. But it’s here at last, and there’s a new, full movie trailer to prove it, as well as a release date: April 2, 2020.
The film focuses on a group of teenage mutants. Including Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams as wolf shapeshifter Rahne. And indie-film wunderkind Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik, who does, well, magic. They’ve all been trapped in a gothic hospital, where nothing is as it seems and increasingly. The teens’ powers, as well as their own fears, seem to be turning against them.
Judging from the new trailer, writer-director Josh Boone has infused the film with lots of horror. Which makes it feel much more akin to Stranger Things than it is the X-Men films. Unfortunately, that means the teens are most likely caught in Weapon X. The same torturous secret medical program that was frequently used to trap, create, manipulate. And torture mutants like Deadpool and Wolverine.
